Good Samaritans save the day for Ercall bowlers.

After 41 years of playing the venerable game of bowls at High Ercall, a set of unforeseen circumstances left the Ercall Magna Bowling Club, and its membership, without a venue for the second half of their season. However, the Bowring in Wellington hosted the Ercall Magna players and supporters throughout the remainder of the season, renaming the club ‘Ercall@Bowring’, and allowing its Finals Day to take place on Sunday 20th September.

Greenhous, the local car and commercial vehicle supplier, agreed to sponsor the Finals Day.  Jo Jones from Greenhous explained: ”We try to support local community groups and we want to wish them every success next season.”

The Bowring proved to be an excellent venue for the competition with some excellent matches taking place.  Margaret Fletcher, secretary of Ercall@Bowring BC, was warm in her praise of their hosts and Greenhous saying: “Our sincere thanks go to Greenhous for their sponsorship which added value to the winner’s prizes. Also the staff at the Bowring have been so generous with their support throughout the season without which we would not have been able to continue as a club.”

The winners on the day were:

The Bert Pitchford rose bowl joint winner - Margaret Thomas

Senior Citizens mixed doubles - Ian Mays & Cynthia Millward

Cyril Shore Championship of Green - Les Pritchard

Cyril Shore Championship of Green - runner up Nick Marshall
