Aberystwyth has a painting and decorating specialist who, being born and bred locally, is proud to be doing his bit to smarten up the town, including refurbishing the internal decoration of the Royal Pier, now under new ownership. John Davies runs ‘Superior Finish’ a decorating company which provides excellence in workmanship with an attention to detail that is in line with the best in the industry. Visit his Superior Finish 2016 Facebook page to view the numerous outstanding reviews and over 1,100 likes and photographs of John working on the Royal Pier.

John transferred from the army with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers to civilian life two years ago and set up Superior Finish Painting and Decorating. He has rapidly built up a portfolio of clients in both the domestic and business markets in Aberystwyth, including companies managing student accommodation. John explains his work ethic saying: “I take pride in attention to detail in every job I take on.  Clients expect a first class finish, but I also believe that how you conduct yourself is equally important.  I always speak to the client about the work involved and advise them on anything that may enhance the look of the finished product.”

The work on the newly acquired Royal Pier has given John the opportunity to work on the Arcade which has been transformed with a completely fresh look.  The windows on the pier were in a very bad way and John removed each one, cleaned them, removing decades of grime before painting and re-installing them.

John has just taken ownership of a brand new Ford Transit van from Kevin Jones, sales executive at Greenhous Ford Transit Centre in Newtown.  They are pictured on the harbour wall at Aberystwyth.  Kevin recalls: “When John approached me he had a second hand van that was in immaculate condition.  A true testament to John’s meticulous approach to his work, which includes his van.  The new van has been liveried and it looks fantastic.”

John employed local businesses where possible including artistic designer, Luke Griffiths of Redesign who applied the artwork to the Ford Transit van.   John engaged Matthew Price of Octopus Creative Web Design to produce the simple, yet stunning logo and will be talking to him about web page development in the near future.

“It is a strong image which says exactly what it needs to and I have had lots of compliments about it,” explained John. “It is important for me to use local businesses to help me if possible and so I buy my paints from Tom Evans at the Clements Decorator Centre in Aberystwyth.”
