Nissan Powertrains Explained

Try it yourself - this is driving made exciting

Discover how to take the next step with Nissan and electrify your drive.

Below are all our electrified powertrains explained so you can feel confident to go electric with Nissan.

Mild Hybrid

How does it all work?

If you compare the Mild Hybrid to a traditional petrol engine, specifically in relation to urban driving, the vehicle emits far less CO2 emissions and has significantly enhanced fuel efficiency.

The Mild Hybrid system features a lithium battery that stores energy recovered during braking. The recovered energy supports the vehicles electrical systems allowing the start/stop system to activate in more situations to enhance fuel efficiency.

The weight of the Nissan Qashqai with Mild Hybrid Technology has been reduced too. Aluminium has been used for the doors, bonnet & wings consequently improving performance.

Charges while driving

The Mild Hybrid POWER offers an all-round improvement in efficiency thanks to the smart regeneration system. While the car is in motion and slowing down, kinetic energy is captured and used to recharge the battery.

Lets the engine take a break

With regenerative braking, energy that might normally wear down the brake pads is put to good use. While idle or coasting, the battery takes over, powering the car's electrical equipment so the engine can shut off more often, improving your fuel efficiency.

Makes acceleration easier

The energy stored in the battery provides an extra boost during acceleration, creating a more responsive experience and further lightening the load on the engine.

Hybrid

How does a Hybrid car work?

The New Nissan Juke Hybrid uses advanced technology which combines an electric motor with a petrol engine. Because you are using the electric motor 80% of the time (driving typically in urban areas) you get all the benefits of a fully electric vehicle, it's more responsive, quieter & powerful.

The electric motor provides you with instant torque meaning impeccable accelerator responsiveness. Juke Hybrid technology uses a clutch less, smart multi-mode gearbox inspired by Formula E with electric motor and petrol engine that work independently or together for more reactiveness and dynamism.

Your trips are also more efficient with lower consumption compared to the Juke petrol engine. The Juke will switch between driving modes seamlessly and according to how you are driving and the scenario you are in.

Petrol, Electric or Both

The Nissan hybrid system makes use of both the petrol engine and electric motors to drive your car. The vehicle can rely on either source or combine the strengths of both to bring you the best balance of performance and efficiency*.

*You should not rely solely on driver convenience features. Some features may not work in all conditions and circumstances.

Chooses the ideal energy source

The system optimises the energy source automatically, reacting to the pressure applied to the accelerator and the battery charge level. All you have to do is drive.

A simple Step for smoother driving

e-Pedal Step lets you drive using a single pedal. Just press the dedicated button and your car will apply the regenerative brakes when you release the accelerator, helping to slow you down**.

e-POWER & e-4ORCE

What is it and how does it work?

e-POWER enables you to experience electrified driving pleasure without any need to recharge. The technology used within e-POWER is completely unique and consists of a petrol engine that constantly recharges a more responsive battery-operated motor, it is that motor that powers the wheels 100% of the time. Compared to a traditional combustion engine you will get a much quieter and fuel-efficient drive.

e-4ORCE is an all-wheel control system with dual electric motors that deliver greater maximum torque, stability and agility. e-4ORCE offers you the enhanced confidence of all-wheel control: the ability to switch power from the front to the rear wheels delivers precise handling, while independent wheel torque control counteracts over- or under-steering. The system helps to control vehicle motion when the brakes are applied, helping to ensure a smooth stable ride.

Fuelled by petrol, driven by electric

Discover a new driving experience without changing your habits. Keep using fuel but enjoy the driving sensations of electric mobility as soon as you press the accelerator.

Recharges on the go

You don’t need to plug-in an e-POWER vehicle. The petrol engine produces energy  that charges the battery when the vehicle needs it. The petrol engine produces energy that can either be directly supplied to the electric motor or to recharge the battery. The electric motor alone drives the vehicles wheels giving an electric feeling drive at all times.

Recycles energy from braking

The friction caused by braking produces energy, and e-POWER doesn't let all the energy usually lost through breaking, go to waste. The regenerative braking system on e-POWER converts kinetic energy from deceleration into electrical energy, and feeds it  back to the battery, improving the fuel-efficiency*.

*Based on internal testing data, and are pending homologation. Real world driving results may vary, depending on multiple factors such as optional equipment, battery condition, climate control, maintenance, driving behaviour and non-technical factors like weather conditions, actual route etc.
