Greenhous get the better of Salop Leisure in cricket
The gauntlet was certainly thrown down by the Greenhous staff team after tasting defeat in the inaugural sports fixture with Salop Leisure – a bruising football match at the Greenhous Meadow. Friday the 12th September saw the re match, this time at cricket in a limited over game hosted by Shrewsbury Cricket Club. The club were on hand to prepare a wicket and offer a barbecue and bar to their sponsors Greenhous and Salop Leisure.

In what turned out to be a highly entertaining match, Greenhous got off to a solid start scoring 83 in their 16 overs with solid knocks by several players. Wickets fell regularly thanks to some accurate bowling and good catching by the Salop Leisure side.

Salop Leisure then stormed out of the blocks with 40 runs being scored in the first three overs of their reply. However, wickets soon fell and some outstanding fielding lead to two run outs, two stumpings and several catches which meant the Salop Leisure team were restricted to 63 all out in their reply.

The Chief Executives of both companies were on hand to lend support to their respective teams, though neither Tony Bywater of Salop Leisure, nor Derek Passant of Greenhous donned their whites to take part. Tony did some umpiring though.

So a thoroughly enjoyable match ended with Greenhous squaring the series and a fine evening was had by all.
