Ian gets on his bike for charity.
Ian Parkes is the sales manager at Greenhous Renault in Shrewsbury and every so often he engages in a physical challenge to raise funds for charity. With cycling as a hobby, Ian signed up to cycle in the Great Bike Ride on Sunday 25th September in aid of Severn Hospice. Ian tries to get out at least once a week on his bike as time allows and he is looking for more opportunities to join in other charity rides.

Ian explains: “I am taking part in the 50 km ride with a couple of neighbours, though there is also a 100 km ride for even more keen cyclists on the same day.  We will start out and finish at Shawbury village hall.  It will be fun and with all of us looking to raise funds for Severn Hospice it is sure to be a worthwhile journey around the beautiful countryside of Shropshire.

Ian reflected on the importance of the Severn Hospice to families in Shropshire saying:  ”Most people have had either direct contact and support from the wonderful team at Severn Hospice or know someone who has.  At our Greenhous Renault dealership, Clare Pearson our senior service advisor, has just raised over £1,600 for the charity as they had helped her family through their ‘Hospice at Home’ team.  It is important to raise awareness of the fantastic people at Severn Hospice and the care they provide both at the hospice and also in people’s homes.”

Lucy Ruff is the fundraising manager at Severn Hospice and she is delighted with the take up for The Great Bike Ride. “We have 184 people pre-registered, it's set to be a great day and it's hoped we'll raise over £10,000. We accept registrations on the day so if any of your other colleagues would like to take part then it's not too late! Registration for the 100km route is between 9 and 9:30 and it's between 10 and 10:30 for the 50km route.”

Ian is hoping to raise £250 for his ride and has already received a lot of support from family and friends and his colleagues at Renault.  He has a Just Giving page on which donations can be made.
