The Nissan LCV Range – Outstanding Safety Rating

Euro NCAP is a well-known passenger and commercial vehicle testing body. They carry out rigorous testing and provide detailed reports of how vehicles perform, publicly accessible on their website. Focussing on transparency, Euro NCAP ratings are there to offer customers reassurance on the safety and crash performance of a vehicle.

After the renowned safety organisation changed the way that they rank LCV performance in 2025, the Nissan van line-up had their safety credentials re-confirmed and re-assessed. Of the three Nissan LCVs that we sell here at Greenhous Nissan, two have achieved the highest Euro NCAP safety rating. The Nissan Townstar and Nissan Interstar have both been awarded five stars under the new system, replacing the previous ‘medal’ ranking.

The Nissan Townstar has stepped up since its last assessment, advancing from gold status, which was equivalent to four stars. This advancement is testament to Nissan’s commitment to safety, made even more significant as Euro NCAP have applied even more rigorous assessment protocols to commercial vehicles since their last assessment in 2023.

The Euro NCAP noted that the Nissan Townstar’s “performance is excellent when approaching a stationary or slower-moving car, with collisions avoided in almost all test scenarios. The system performs equally well whether the target vehicle is straight in front of it or offset to one side.'' In addition, the Lane Departure Warning System received praise for its performance in all testing, keeping drivers safe even in critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. An advanced suite of technologies such as this are installed as standard across all grades, ensuring customers are reassured that they will be supported on every journey, whichever spec they choose. The Nissan Townstar also received particular praise for its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system, detecting other vehicles and vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists and helping to alert drivers to potential hazards or collisions.

As Nissan’s largest LCV, The Nissan Interstar was recognised in its report as well-deserving of the top five-star rating. The Nissan Primastar additionally received the second highest rating, achieving four-stars. In the report, Euro NCAP note that the Nissan Primastar is “a good choice for those seeking a safe commercial van”.

When assessed for crash avoidance, the Nissan Interstar was scored at 76 per cent, the Nissan Townstar achieved 74 per cent and the Nissan Primastar achieved 61 per cent. All three LCVs from the range achieved an impressive 80 per cent in the post-crash safety category, proving that they have been designed with Nissan’s commitment to keeping you safe in mind.
